Anna Sloan

1919-2003

Anna Louise Osten Sloan, 84, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility in Ashland.

Mrs. Sloan was born Jan. 13, 1919, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Hiram Edward and Mabel Porter Osten.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Edward Sloan; one son, George Osten Sloan; and three grandchildren, Bernard Alan Sloan, Lori Christine Sloan and Leslei Cheri Sloan.

Anna graduated with honors from Ashland Senior High in 1936 and was a member of the "36" Club. She was a graduate of Holy Family St. Cecilia School of Music in piano. When WCMI started, she had a Sunday evening program. Anna was also active in the local MADD chapter.

Anna belonged to the South Ashland United Methodist Church and was an active member of the United Methodist Women and the church choir.

She is survived by two sons, Carl Edward Sloan Jr. (Anna Lee) and James David Sloan (Jennie); five grandchildren, Kathy S. Cooke (Steve), David K. Sloan (Anne), Donald Bradley Jr., Tonya Harris (Billy), and Tommy Sloan (Cathy); and seven great-grandchildren, Heather Cooke, Hannah Sloan, Kyle Harris, Kevin Harris, Kari Harris, T.J. Sloan and Jennifer Sloan.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. David Fultz. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions to South Ashland United Methodist Church, 2203 29th St., Ashland, Ky. 41101 or Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, Ky. 41101.
