Violet Lucas

Violet Ruth Thacker Lucas, 80, of Ashland, died Friday, May 30, in King's Daughters Medical Center.
Mrs. Lucas was born Aug. 25, 1922, in Ceredo, W.Va., the daughter of the late Sidney Lee and Mary Lucille Perdue Thacker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Elvyn Lucas, on May 22, 1997, and by four brothers, Paul Thacker, Forrest Thacker, Sigel Thacker and James Thacker, and a sister, Catherine.
A member of Central Baptist Church, she was church organist for 37 years and was a member of its Women's Missionary Union. She was a member of PTA for 12 years.
She is survived by a son, Wiliam Boyd Lucas of Beckley, W.Va.; two daughters, Nancy Lucas Coffman and son-in-law Joe Coffman of Orange Park, Fla., and Mary Catherine Lucas Lyons of Ashland; a sister, Birdie Maxine Thacker Cole of Ceredo, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Amber Lyons, Jerry Coffman and Beth Estep; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, at Steen Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel by the Rev. John Weaver and the Rev. Joed Rice. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
