Elise Stewart Dysard

Elise Stewart Dysard, 88, (Mrs. W. Henderson Dysard), died at her home in Ashland, Ky., on Monday, June 23, 2003.

Mrs. Dysard was a daughter of the late Owen Rice Stewart and Betty Rupert Stewart of Grayson, Ky., and is survived by her son, James G.R. Stewart, an art historian in Delray Beach, Fla.; one nephew, Robert Owen Sweeney of Ashland; and two cousins, Mrs. Ruth Parsons of Olive Hill, Ky., and Mrs. Fern Parsons of Grayson.

Mrs. Dysard owned the first Manpower franchise in the tri-state area, was owner of Ashland Tree Co., and Ashland Sales and Services.

Mrs. Dysard was active in civic affairs in Ashland and the Tri-State Region. She was a former president and board member of the Pilot Club, a member of the Board of the Boyd County Library, and the Board of the YWCA.

She was a recipient of the Pilot Club Gertrude Ramey Service Award. She was also a recipient of the YWCA Volunteer of the Year Award. Mrs. Dysard was active in fund raising for the Greater Ashland Foundation and worked especially with Heirloom Discovery Day involving Sotheby's Galleries of New York City.

In 1995, she was the first recipient of the Eva Forsythe Award given by the YWCA. Her particular love was the Paramount Arts Center to which she devoted many years of her life. She was an original member of the Paramount Woman's Association where she was president from 1979 to 1980, was a member of the Center's Advisory Board and with her dear friend the late Mary Gesling was active in recruiting shops and stores throughout the regional area for the Center's Holiday Hall. Her hobbies were gardening and European travel.

Visiting hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel on Thursday, June 26, 2003.

Funeral services will be conducted at Calvary Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2003. Burial will be in Grayson Memorial Burial Park in Grayson at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Paramount Arts Center, 1300 Winchester Ave., Ashland, Ky. 41101.
