French Harmon Sr.
1917-2003
French Baker Harmon Sr., 85, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Ashland, Ky., died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 2, 1917, in Bonnyman, Ky., a son of the late Girard Kinner and Rebecca Baker Harmon.
He was a retired ironworker, was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, and was a member of Second Freewill Baptist Church in Ashland, Disabled American Veterans, and Local No. 769.
His survivors include his wife, Mary Stephenson Harmon of Louisville, whom he married on Aug. 8, 1954; two sons, French B. Jr. (Rachael) Harmon of Fort Mitchell, Ky., and William K. (Amy) Harmon of Louisville; two daughters, Denise Harmon (Charles) Elliott of Hillard, Ohio, and Vanita Harmon (Charles) Hart of Louisville; three brothers, Ellis Harmon and Clyde Harmon, both of Catlettsburg, Ky., and Walter Harmon of Point Pleasant, W.Va.; three sisters, Virginia Lyons of Port Orange, Fla., Amy Thompson of Huntington, W.Va., and Norma Jean White of Ocala, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren, Erica Elliott, Elizabeth Elliott, Natalie Hart, Andrew Hart, French B. Harmon III, Madison Noelle Harmon, Jack Anthony Harmon, Grant Harmon, Grayson Harmon, and Greta Caroline Harmon.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Dr. French B. Harmon Jr. and the Rev. Kenneth Walker. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park with military rites by American Legion Post No. 93 of Kenova.
