Clarence Creech
1917-2003
Clarence B. Creech of Longmont, Colo., formerly of Ashland, Ky., died on Saturday, June 28, in Madisonville, Ky., after a brief illness.
Mr. Creech was born on Oct. 14, 1917, in Meade Station, Ky., a son of the late Amsa Norman and Nora Mariah Johnson Creech.
During World War II, Clarence was a U. S. Navy chief petty officer serving in a Naval air wing from January 1942 until June of 1945. He saw action in all three theaters of operation. His service on aircraft carriers took him around the world and earned him a Presidential Unit Citation for outstanding performance in action.
He was a graduate of Ashland High School and the University of Wyoming in Laramie under the GI Bill. He graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law in Lexington, Ky., in 1950.
He practiced law in Ashland until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Optimists Club and many other organizations. He was active politically in the state of Kentucky serving as a delegate to the National Democratic Convention in 1964.
Since his retirement and until his death, he spent his time enjoying family life in both Colorado and Kentucky. He loved the out-of-doors, his gardening projects, politics, the family pets and physical exercise. His extraordinary pride in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was his greatest joy.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn Creech of Dayton, Ohio, Lawrence Creech of Ashland, and Paul Creech of South Point, Ohio; and three sisters, Mrs. Delbert (Beatrice) Lowe of Hernando, Fla., Mrs. Frank (Irene) Lundy of Inverness, Fla., and Mrs. Paul (Dorothy) Anderson of Ashland.
Surviving are a son, Eric Creech of Catlettsburg, Ky.; two daughters, Ms. Nancye Queen of Longmont and Mrs. Cindy Miller of Madisonville; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be conducted today, July 2, 2003, at Dixon Cemetery by the Rev. Michael Rice.
Family will receive friends at the Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel, 3409 13th Street, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. tonight.
