Doris Felty

1919-2003

Doris Eleanor Vance Felty, 83, of Summit, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2003, in King's Daughters Medical Center.

Mrs. Felty was born Nov. 10, 1919, in Ashland. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson "T.J." and Kathleen Salisbury Vance.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Felty Jr., in 1994; a brother, Robert Vance; and two sisters, Betty Vance Beitel and Tommy Jean Vance Manning.

A school teacher, she was retired from Summit Elementary School.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ashland and United Methodist Women. She was a member of the N.E.A., K.E.A. and B.E.A. education associations, and a lifetime member of the Parent-Teacher Association.

A graduate of Marshall University and Morehead State University, she was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and the Boyd County Retired Teachers Association.

She was a member of the Ashland Civic Club, Friends of Hospice, the Ashland Democratic Women's Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Pride of Sandy Valley #573.

She is survived by a son, Ronald (Sandy) Felty of Ashland; a daughter, Thurmona (Raymond Lee) Cooper of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; a brother, Jack Salisbury Vance of Grayson; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2003, at Steen Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel by the Rev. Dale Carden and the Rev. Doug Snyder.

Interment will follow in Rose Hill Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions to the First United Methodist Church, 1811 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
