John Kennard Jr.
1932-2003
John Kennard Jr., 71, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Kennard was born Jan. 5, 1932, in Sciotoville, Ohio, a son of the late John Earl Sr. and Virgie Applegate Kennard.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Elizabeth Ann Walton Kennard; and a sister, Janet Kennard Weaver.
He was retired from Sunoco Corp. (formerly Aristech), was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and was an amateur radio operator and member of ARRL (Amateur Radio Relay League).
Survivors include his wife, Shirley McCoy Kennard of Ashland; two sons, John D. Kennard and Brett (Cindy) Kennard, both of Ashland; two sisters, Phyllis Kennard Copley and Brenda Kennard Shonkwiler, both of Scioto County, Ohio; three granddaughters, Megan Jones and Emily Jones, both of Worthington, Ky., and Elizabeth Kennard of Ashland; and a great-grandson, Alex Connor Meade of Worthington.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Matt Riley. Burial will be in Wheelersburg Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Military services will be conducted by the American Legion Kenova Post No. 93.
