Eva Adams

1923-2003

Eva (Newell) Atkins Adams, 80, of Rush, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003 at her home.

Born June 19, 1923, in Ashland, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Benjamin H. and Carrie Newell.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Benjamin and Carmen Newell, and two sisters, Berna Riddle and Jeannine Swinney.

She was a dedicated member of Garner Baptist Church in Rush. She was a Sunday school teacher, a Prayer Chain member, and a WMU member.

She was the widow of the Rev. John Atkins, married for 52 years at the time of his death. She served with him as pastor's wife, teacher, pianist, and missionary in churches in Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. The churches last served were Buena Vista Baptist and Mt. Hebron Baptist in the surrounding Danville, Ky., area.

She is survived by her husband, Howard Adams of Rush; a daughter, Dreama Williamson of Danville; three grandchildren, Staff Sgt. Clint Browning of Fort Bragg, N.C., Dori Rhodus of Danville and Shayne Williamson of Danville; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland. Services will be at Garner Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, by the Rev. Gary Arrington and Kenneth Vaughn. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Robert Williamson, Shayne Williamson, Roy Browning, Clint Browning, Sam Rhodus and Victor Swinney.

Memorials may go to Hospice, Garner Baptist Church, Rush, Ky., or Beech Street Christian Church, Ashland, Ky.
