Merle Clemons

1939-2003

Merle T. Clemons, 64, of Catlettsburg, Ky., died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, in King's Daughters Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 2, 1939, in Grayson County, Ky., a son of Ora Higdon Clemons of Leitchfield, Ky., and the late Clifford Clemons.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Buck Clemons.

He was a retired machinist with CSX and a former machinist for Brown & Williamson for 21 years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Ashland, Ky., and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Additional survivors include his wife, Betty J. Haysley Clemons of Catlettsburg; two sons, Gene and his wife, Donna, Clemons and Mike Clemons and his fiance, Angel, all of Louisville, Ky.; a daughter, Stacey Clemons, at home; two brothers, Jackie Clemons of Leitchfield and Richard Clemons of Louisville; a sister, Diana Stanton of Leitchfield; and three grandchildren, Channing, Derrick and Cameron Clemons of Louisville.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. central time, Nov. 26, 2003, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Wax, Ky., by Father John Noe and Father Bryan. Burial will be in St. Benedict Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Nov. 24, 2003 at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel and from 6 to 8 p.m. central time, Tuesday, at Watson & Hunt Funeral Home in Leitchfield.

Scripture service will be at 7 tonight at Steen Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 4338 13th St., Ashland, Ky. 41102.
