Rives Jones Jr.

Rives R. Jones Jr., 93, of Ashland, Ky., died at 4:20 a.m Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Jones was born July 20, 1910, in Charlottesville, Va., a son of the late Rives R. and Rosa Feuchtenberger Jones.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane Jones.
He was a retired general manager with Betsy Ross Bakeries. He was past president of the YMCA during construction of the new facility, past director of the Second National Bank, former president of the Rotary Club, former president of Community Chest, chairman of the board of King's Daughters Medical Center and Board of Incorporators of KDMC, was the founder of King's Daughters Medical Center Health Foundation, and served on the board of directors for Ramey Home and Salvation Army.
He was named Boss of the Year by the Elks, was a former member of the Board of Central Park, was Ashland Tennis Champion 1944-1950, attended VPI, performed in "White Cliffs of Dover" to raise funds for the first chairholder seats for Parmount Arts, was a board member of Paramount Arts Restoration, and was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Ashland since 1944, where he served on the board of stewards, finance committee, was a past Sunday school teacher and played the piano and organ, and organized the Methodist Men.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Stafford Jones; a son, Rives R. Jones III (Laura) of Las Vegas; a stepson, Stephen Carmines (Julia) of Hephzibah, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Carmines of Tiburon, Calif.; a brother, C. Goodman Jones of Bluefield, W.Va.; a special first cousin, Libby Lowe; three nephews, Charles Goodman Jones and Hamilton Jones of Bluefield and Geoffery Jones of Concord, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Linda Danley, Pamela Jones, Rives R. Jones IV, Jennifer Hapney, Amber Carmines, Nichole Carmines and Crystal Darlington; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at First United Methodist Church in Ashland by the Rev. Dale Carden, the Rev. Doug Snyder, and the Rev. Blanchard Amstutz.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland and one hour before the service Saturday at the church.
