James Edward Dobbins

1914-2003

James Edward Dobbins, 89, of Bellefonte, Ky., died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, in King's Daughters Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Jeanette Hall Dobbins, in 1998.

Mr. Dobbins was born Aug. 15, 1914, in Ashland, Ky., a son of the late John W. Dobbins and Bertha Mae Fain Dobbins.

He was a founding and charter member and elder emeritus at the Community Presbyterian Church in Bellefonte.

Mr. Dobbins retired from Ashland Oil Inc. in 1976, completing 41 years of service. He was for many years manager of the Catlettsburg Refinery Yield Office. He was instrumental in computerizing the inventory accounting and reporting system at the Catlettsburg refinery.

Survivors include two sons, Edward N. Dobbins and his wife, Judy, of Bellefonte, and Gregory Dobbins and his wife, Susan, of Columbia, S.C. He has four grandchildren, Julie Warren and her husband, Jamie, Jane Dobbins, Stephen Dobbins, and Elizabeth Dobbins. He has one great-grandson, Jackson Warren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, by the Rev. Dwight McCormick at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel. Entombment will be in Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 tonight, Dec. 7, 2003, at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the Community Presbyterian Church, 605 Bellefonte-Princess Road, Ashland, Ky. 41102.

We were sadened to learn of the passing of Jim. I worked for him starting in 1947 as a 19 year old who knew nothing about accounting. He was the most kind, patient and generous person I have ever had the pleasure of working with and will forever be in his debt. I'm sur there are many who feel the same.
