James "Jack" Fryer Jr.
1924-2003
James W. "Jack" Fryer Jr., 79, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky.
Mr. Fryer was born Aug. 1, 1924, in Ashland, a son of the late James William Sr. and Mary Jane Green Fryer.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Blair Fryer, in February 1987; and a brother, Ben S. Fryer.
He was a retired Armco Steel employee with 42 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a graduate of Boyd County High School.
Survivors include two sons, Lon (Rosemary) Castle Jr. of Fort Ogden, Fla., and Kenneth (Tina) Castle of Huntington, W.Va.; a daughter, Shirley Ann Ferguson of Pensacola, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Delphia Fryer of Ashland; and two nephews, Larry Fryer of Barboursville, W.Va., and Darrell Fryer of Ashland.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel by Gregg Ferguson. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post No. 93 of Kenova.
