Mary Smith

1914-2003

Mary M. Smith, 89, of Ashland, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility.

Mrs. Smith was born June 7, 1914, in Opelika, Ala., a daughter of the late James Madison and Fredonia Redwine Williams.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Otis Smith, and granddaughter, Yvonne Scott, who died Dec. 25, 2003.

A homemaker, she was a member of the Christ Temple Church, and a faithful Sunday School attendee.

She is survived by one daughter, Adele Scott of Ashland; one brother James (Clara) Williams of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Fannie Madden of Cleveland, Ohio, and Bessie (Ollie) Robinson of Detroit; three grandchildren, Erwin K. (Vickie) Scott of Ashland, Sha'ri (Newman) Birchfield of Columbus, Ohio; three great grandchildren, Erwin K. Scott Jr. of Ashland, Misty Hydrick of Ashland, and Anita Justice of Nashville, Tenn.; one great-great grandchild, Ciera McDowell; and a host of family and friends.

A joint funeral service for Mrs. Smith and her granddaughter will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec.30 at the Christ Temple Church in Ashland by Suffragan Bishop Elzy Thomas. Burial will follow in the Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church under the direction of Steen Funeral Home - Central Avenue Chapel.

I took care of Mary the last few months of her life. She was A great joy.I will miss her alot. She and yvonne were so lucky to have had each other in their lives. [Mary I love you]
