Jack Dean Romick

1927-2004

Jack Dean Romick of Ashland, Ky., son of the late Jacob and Joyce Romick of Rawson, Ohio, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at his home. He was 77.

Mr. Romick was born Jan. 2, 1927, in Rawson. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Maxine Curtis Romick; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Lynn and Brandt Howell of Ashland and Jacquelin Ann and Carroll Brown of White Mills, Ky.; a granddaughter, Teresa E. Mullen of Louisville, Ky.; and four grandsons, Michael D. Smith of Greenville, S.C., LCPL Erik S. Smith of Camp Pendleton, Calif., Jeremy Howell of Ashland and Bryce R. Brown of White Mills.

Jack was a graduate of Rawson High School and received a bachelor of science degree from Ohio State and a master's degree from the University of Evansville, Ind. His career was in land and exploration with Ashland Exploration for 25 years and retiring from Columbia Gas Energy in Houston. He served in many capacities while on the Professional Landman's Board.

He proudly served our country during World War II in the European Theater. After the end of the war, he served with the Ski Troops and the basketball team while still in Germany.

Jack's activities, honors and community services have included membership in the Boy Scouts with the rank of Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow, a member of First United Methodist Church of Ashland and El Hasa Temple of Ashland, past master of Poage Lodge No. 325, an honorary member of Smith Lodge No. 775, past high priest of Apperson No. 81, past master of RAM Everett No. 65 R&SM, past commander of Ashland Commandery No. 28 KT, Sword of Bunker Hill No. 82, Kentucky District No. 37, Present and Past Masters Club, Hillbilly Clan No. 1, Oriental Band and Legion of Honor, Clarence Fields Post No. 76 of American Legion, and Kentucky Priory No. 25 Knights of the York Cross of Honor. He also belonged to the Kentucky colonels, Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, American Association of Petroleum Landman and Northeast Fish and Game Association.

He was currently volunteering at King's Daughters Medical Center.

Visitation will be at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland today, Feb. 22, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Poage Lodge No. 325 will have a Masonic service at 7 p.m.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at the funeral home by the Rev. Dale Carden. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 18th Street and Carter Avenue, Ashland, Ky., or Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
