Gaylord Russell Crum

1971-2004

Gaylord Russell Crum, 32, of Ashland, died Friday, March 12, 2004, in King's Daughters Medical Center after a short illness.

Mr. Crum was born March 27, 1971, in Ashland, a son of Gaylord and Nadine Scarberry Crum of Ashland.

He was a 1989 graduate of Boyd County High School and a member of the First Church of God in Ashland.

He was a musician and an active member of ACTC Theatre Group and other local theater groups.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Paul Crum; his grandparents, Hazel and Ervin Scarberry; and a nephew, Jonathan Crum.

Mr. Crum is survived by his paternal grandmother, Minnie Crum of Ashland; one brother, Jeffery and his wife Lisa Crum of Lexington; one sister, Rebecca and her husband Alvin Clere of Ashland; one nephew, Austin Crum of Lexington; and one niece, Heather Crum, also of Lexington.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark Fleshman, John Cox, Chris Bugg, George Kramer, Chris Chandler, Eric Young, Eric Riffe and John Patrick.

The funeral will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel with the Rev. Tom Pelt and Pastor Tim Nay. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

There will be a private committal service at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.

Gayle. You were the cooler, older brother I never had. I can't even begin to express my grief here. You know I would have been there if I could have. I know you know that. Gaylord, Nadine, Becky, Jeff. I've known you all for as long as I knew Gayle. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

I am truly sorry for the loss of this wonderful man. Although I did not know him well, I am thankful for the our many talks. My condolences to his friends and family.

I'm at a loss for words. I'm so lucky to have been able to call Gayl my friend. He was truly one of a kind and I will miss him dearly. My condolences to his family.

Please accept my dear condolences in Gails passing. We went to school together for years. When we were in 3rd grade, he used to chase me on the playground. I know that he will be missed deeply.

I am sorry to learn of Gayle's passing. I will always remember meeting Gayle in 1988 before starting high school at Boyd County and playing music with him in the basement of your church. It was a pleasure to know him and to have been impacted by his life. I will keep your family in my prayers and know that he will be missed by many. Mark
