Wilbert G. Haase
1914-2004
Wilbert G. Haase, age 90, of Ashland, Ky., died Friday, April 16, 2004, in Wurtland Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Haase was born March 19, 1914, in Norfolk, Neb., a son of the late Ernst and Anna Haase.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sarah O'Brien Haase in 1985; a brother; and three sisters.
He was a retired superintendent of industries with the Federal Prison with 32 years of service. He served during World War II as a chief petty officer with the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ashland, was a Kentucky colonel, did volunteer income tax service for the AARP, where he was the associate district coordinator for 20 years, and graduated in 1950 from George Washington University.
Surviving are a daughter, Phyllis Hyman of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sons, Matthew Haase of Charlotte, N.C., and Dennis Hencye of Ashland; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother and one sister in Norfolk.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2004, at the Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Mark A. Kloha. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
