William F. "Bill" Penix
1922-2004
Bill Penix, 81, of Catlettsburg, Ky., died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, in King's Daughters Medical Center after an extended illness.
He was born December 4, 1922, in Ashland, Ky., a son of the late Malcolm and Pearl Howard Penix.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mindy Penix Greene.
His wife of 61 years, Mable Howard Penix, survives.
He was a member of Summit Missionary Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He was a former teacher of the adult men's Sunday School class and director of the "Joy Club" senior group. He retired from Armco Steel Corporation as an inspector and served in W.W.II as an Army staff sergent.
Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
His survivors include a daughter, Missy Jackson and her husband, Buck, of Catlettsburg; four sisters, Verna Boston of Baltimore, Md.; Ona Mae Barker of Ashland; Gladys Kolson of Bel-Air, Md.; and Betty Miller and her husband, Henry, of Bridgewater, N.J.; four grandchildren, Shelly Jackson Davis, Brad Greene, Terri Jackson Cyrus and Nikki Jackson Puckett; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services to honor Mr. Penix will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 22, 2004, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Meenach and the Rev. Lindsey Webb. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends and family may call from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
