Dorothy Louise VanHorn
1923-2004
Dorothy Louise VanHorn, age 80, of Cannonsburg, Ky., died Wednesday morning, May 19, 2004, at her residence.
Mrs. VanHorn was born July 11, 1923, in Ashland, Ky., and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Edith Mae Jarvis Brown.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. VanHorn was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Donald E. VanHorn Sr. who died in June 2003, and a sister, Betty Jean Campbell.
She was a homemaker and had worked as a volunteer for the Senior Citizens Center, held office with the Church Women United, was former president of the state PTA, was a former Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader, participated in the Mr. and Mrs. Bowling League and Meals on Wheels, and was a volunteer for the Pathways clubhouse for the mentally challenged in Greenup County.
She was the oldest living member of the First Church of God in Ashland and was a member of the Women of the Church of God, where she formerly held many positions. She was the church parliamentarian, a member of Freda Rice circle, and raised money for cancer and heart funds.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Surviving are a daughter, Pamela VanHorn of Cannonsburg; two sons, Donald E. (Judy) VanHorn Jr. of Ashland and James A. VanHorn of Cannonsburg; a sister, Helen Johnson of Morgantown, W.Va.; a grandson, Stephen (Angie) VanHorn of Ashland; and a great-granddaughter, Chloe VanHorn of Ashland.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Bill Vallance and the Rev. Tom Pelt. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
