George H. Billings
1932-2004
George H. Billings, 72, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, in King's Daughters Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 10, 1932, in Highcoal, in Boone County, W.Va., and was a son of the late Garrett Hobert and Elizabeth Payne Billings.
He was retired from Columbia Gas with 40 years of service and was vice president and CEO of Columbia Coal. He was a member of Masonic Lodge in Clendenin, W.Va., American Legion in West Hamlin, W.Va., Elks B.P.O.E. No. 350 in Ashland, Bellefonte Country Club in Ashland and Continental Dance Club. He was a 1953 graduate of Virginia Tech and was an active alumnus.
Mr. Billings has an annual scholarship in his name at Virginia Tech School of Mining Engineering.
He served in the Army during the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Ring Billings of Ashland; two daughters, Deborah Adams and her husband, Terry, of Logan, W.Va., and Patricia Wilson and her husband, Steve, of St. Albans, W.Va.; two stepchildren, V. Esther Goodall and her husband, Leonard Womble, of Nitro, W.Va., and Debra Lockhart and her husband, Will, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; grandchildren, Daniel and Eric Holt and Amanda and David Adams; a great-grandchild, Skylar Faith; stepgrandchildren, Chelsea and Wills Lockhart and Todd Wilson; and a sister, Kaye Wilkerson of Tallmadge, Ohio, and Naples, Fla.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, June 17, 2004, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Scott A. Hill. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2004, at Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans.
