Rev. Warren G. Dean, 83, of Ashland, Ky., died July 11, 2004, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Rev. Dean was born June 27, 1921, in Davy, W.Va., a son of the late Joseph Booten and Ruth Matney Dean.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Aaron and Gideon Dean; and four sisters, Mamie Dean, Fannie Mayhew, Syrean Baker and Siotha Mullins.
He was an American Baptist and West Virginia Baptist minister for 54 years and served churches in West Virginia and Ohio. After retirement, he was an interim minister in Kentucky, West Virginia and Ohio and was interim minister of the First Baptist Church of Ceredo, W.Va., the 20th St. Baptist Church in Kenova, W.Va., the 20th and 5th Ave. Baptist Church in Huntington, W.Va., and the Highlawn Baptist Church in Huntington.
He was a 1939 graduate of Logan High School, received a BS degree from Draughn's University in Corpus Christi, Texas, attended Bob Jones University and was a graduate of Clarkesville Theological Seminary, where he later received an honorary doctor's degree. He was a World War II veteran with the 1st Marine Division of the Guadalcanal.
He was a 32nd degree Mason, and was a member of Grand Lodge in Minerva, W.Va., Masonic Lodge No. 13 in Barboursville, W.Va., Scottish Rites, Shriners, and Valley of the Orient of West Virginia.
Surviving are his wife, Ival "Jane" Lakin Dean of Ashland, whom he married on Sept. 6, 1944; two daughters, Janice (David) Ratliff of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Darlene (Thomas) McGill of Ashtabula, Ohio; a sister, Ethel Southard of Charleston, W.Va.; grandchildren, Chantelle Petrou of Medina, Ohio, Stephanie Graff of Fort Collins, Colo., Todd McGill of Ashtabula and Jason Ratliff of Cleveland, Tenn.; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rose Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Stewart, Dr. Ronnie Mayes and the Rev. Gary Arrington. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Pallbearers will be the No. 1 Adult Men Sunday School class.
