John Leslie Clemens, 73, of Ashland, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, in the Jo Linn Health Care Center in Ironton, Ohio.

He was born May 22, 1931, in Mayslick, Ky., a son of the late Leslie Dixon and Mary Allen Clemens.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Mr. Clemens was an Army Veteran and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a retired crane operator with Armco Steel and a member of Second Baptist Church of Mayslick, Ky. He was also a former member of the American Legion Top Hatters.

His survivors include a son, Keith (Robin) Clemens of Pacifica, Calf.; a sister, Elsie Anderson of Dayton, Ohio; a niece, Angela Jordan of Atlanta, Ga.; Devoted Niece, Ava "Cissie" Clayton of Ashland, Ky.; two grandchildren, Camille and Hilary Clemens; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland with Dr. Douglas Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions in honor of Mr. Clemens to New Hope Baptist Church, 2717 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
