Vessie O'Bryan Castle, 95, of Ashland, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at her home on Spring Street.
She was born Sept. 4, 1907, in Cordell, Ky., a daughter of the late Cora Belle Castle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Monroe Castle; two sons, Aubrey Eugene Castle and Hoyt E. Castle; one daughter, Maxine Hurst; and a grandson, George E. Castle, whom she raised.
Vessie is survived by two sons, Thomas Glenn Castle of Rochester, Mich., and Lonnie Paul Castle of Pontiac, Mich.; six daughters, Adeline Lee Castle of Ashland, Jewell Lemaster of Pontiac, Beatrice Mae Mabry of Olive Hill, Ky., Cora Victoria Blair of Ashland, Lou Vernie Blinn of Live Oak, Fla., and Janet M. Bishop of Ironton, Ohio; and a sister, Lena Wellman of Baltimore, Md. She has 49 grandchildren; 86 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren.
She always called them all her pride and joy.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the John Steen Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Dr. Lee Gussler officiating.
