--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Harvey Bascom McClellan passed away Oct. 20, 2004, in Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods, Ky.

Born Oct. 21, 1915, in Henderson, Ky., Harvey was a son of the late Pearl Collins McClellan Nunn and Harvey Bascom McClellan Sr. He lived in Ashland, Ky., from 1942 to the present.

Harvey is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Turman McClellan.

Surviving also are the following cousins, William McClellan Reynolds (Patsy) of Henderson, Daniel Harding (Betty) of Owensboro, Ky., Steven David Collins (Michelle) of Lincolnwood, Ill., and Lois Collins Maly (Charles) of Mokena, Ill.

Blessed with many loving friends, Harvey is also survived by three especially cherished people whose friendships span many decades, Norwood Calhoun Harrison of Spartanburg, S.C., William C. Duckworth II of Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Emily Smith of Henderson.

Harvey graduated from high school in Henderson as valedictorian of his class. In 1938, he graduated with highest honors from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. During college, he received a number of academic and extra-curricular awards, among them election to Phi Beta Kappa during his junior year. He also was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and was an officer in several other college organizations. A lifelong Episcopalian, Harvey was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Henderson.

Harvey was employed in the accounting department of Allied Chemical Corp. from 1942 until his retirement in 1974. He then worked in the office of the Ashland Area YMCA until 1990.

Among Harvey's major interests were tennis and the arts, especially music of almost every genre. For the past 35 years, he was particularly interested in traditional Appalachian music and counted himself truly privileged to have become friends with several dozen excellent performers of this music.

Harvey's wife wishes to thank the numerous friends who have offered such continued generous support and consolation during recent years. She especially wants to express her deepest gratitude to the entire staff and many of the residents of Oakmont Manor who have given such exceptional care and loving attention to Harvey and to her during the past 14 months.

Visitation for Harvey will be at the Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel, 3409 13th St., Ashland on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friends are invited to stay at 8 p.m. for a brief memorial service conducted by Stewart Schneider, with traditional Appalachian music presented by several of Harvey's friends.

Interment will be in Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson. A graveside service led by the Rev. Gordon Morrison will be held at 1 p.m. Central Time on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that a donation be made to a favorite charity or to the Ed Haley Memorial Fiddle Fest, c/o Gayle Fritz, 1945 Woodland Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
