Edith L. Smith, 71, of South Ashland, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in King's Daughters Medical Center.

Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 21, 1933, in Maytown, Floyd County, Ky., a daughter of the late James M. and Elizabeth Allen Lafferty.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, William Richard Smith, and a sister, Easter Williams.

A homemaker, she attended the 39th Street International Pentecostal Church of Christ.

Surviving are a daughter, Lydia Maragret Kinney of Ashland, Ky.; four sons, Richard Lee (Gloria) Smith and James A. (Carlotta) Smith, both of Ashland, Patrick E. (Shelia) Smith of Middletown, Ohio, and the Rev. John E. (Robin) Smith of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Thelma Juricak of Ashland; a half sister, Henreitta Roberts of Ashland; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Cline McCallister and the Rev. John Smith. Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at the funeral home.
