George Burr Finney, 83, of Ashland, Ky., died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, in the Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born Oct. 29, 1921, in Burnaugh, Ky., the son of the late William Burr and Susie VanHorn Finney.
Mr. Finney, a WWII Navy veteran, was the owner of W.B. Finney & Son Grocery for 27 years and co-owner of Ashland Foodland for 18 years.
He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ashland, the Hampton Masonic Lodge 235, F&AM, and was a 1940 graduate of Ashland High School.
His survivors include his wife, Sue Clevenger Finney of Ashland; a niece, Cheryl and her husband, Ned Spanagel, of Bloomer, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Margaret Stewart of Ashland and Trudy Clevenger of Grayson, Ky.; special nephews, John Stewart and his wife, Pat, of Ashland, Don Stewart of Ashland and Dan E. Clevenger of Columbus, Ohio; great-nephews, Jay Stewart, Dan E. Clevenger Jr., Charles Michael Clevenger and Mark A. Spanagel and his wife, Jen; and great-nieces, Heather Brown and Katie and her husband, Geoff Griffith.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ashland by Pastor Mark A. Kloha. Burial will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jay Stewart, Geoff Griffith, Robert M. Craycraft, Richard Brown, Wordie Blair and Dan E. Clevenger.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at the church.
Friends may make contributions to the Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Road, Ashland, KY 41101, or to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1320 Bath Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Hospice Care Center for the wonderful care it provided for Mr. Finney.
