Clifford Dale Tatterson - 1923-2005

Clifford Dale Tatterson, 81, of Ashland, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, in Community Hospice Care Center.

He was born June 1, 1923, in Reedy, W.Va., a son of the late Ora and Mattie Riddle Tatterson.

He was a graduate of Spencer High School in Spencer, W.Va., and joined the U.S. Navy where he served from 1943 to 1946 aboard the USS Munda. He attended West Virginia Technical School in Montgomery, W.Va., and graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Ill. He was employed by Appalachian Electrical Power and Union Carbide in South Charleston, W.Va., for 23 years, spending one year in Puerto Rico supervising a new plant. In 1972, he was employed by Honeywell Inc. and moved to the DuPont Plant at Wurtland, where he retired after 16 years.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Schoolcraft Tatterson; one son, Jeffrey D. and his wife, Dr. Deanna B. Tatterson of Flatwoods; two grandchildren, Holly Elizabeth and Aaron Delano Tatterson of Flatwoods; two sisters, Elsie Goff of Cross Junction, Va., and Leora Anderson of Newark, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews who are very special to him.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Benjamin Tatterson and Willis Tatterson, and two sisters, Mildred Tatterson and Marie Hartzell.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Wesleyan Sunday School Class, Missions Committee, South Ashland Lions Club, Master Gardener's and a dedicated volunteer for River Cities Harvest and Habitat for Humanity.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel by the Rev. Dale Carden.

Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101; First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1670, Ashland, KY 41105-1670; or South Ashland Lions Club, 4724 Nottingham Court, Ashland, KY 41102.
