Labe Hager Arrington, 86, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility.

Mr. Arrington was born Sept. 3, 1918, in Lawrence County, Ky., a son of the late Hubert Arrington and Susie Griffith Arrington Ratliff.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Levina Jewell Cox Arrington in 2002.

He was a retired control operator with Allied Chemicals in South Point, Ohio, after 34 years of service. A local home builder, he was a member of Garner Baptist Church.

He was a technical sergeant with the U.S. Army serving with the 1st Special Service Force known as the "Black Devils", also known as "Devils Brigade", during World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Sheila Arrington (Kevin) Porter of Dublin, Ohio; three sons, Jack (Marlene) Chenoweth of Westerville, Ohio, and Hager (Becky) Arrington Jr. and Gary (Deanna) Arrington, all of Ashland; grandchildren, Tina Arrington Jones, Gretchen Arrington Vanhoose, Malorie Porter, Chase Porter, Kaelyn Porter, Jeff Chenoweth, Kari Chenoweth Schuster and Steven Chenoweth; and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at the Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Jon Black. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park with military rites by American Legion Kenova Post 93.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Garner Baptist Church Building Fund, 19231 Ky. 3, Rush, KY 41168 or Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
