Kenneth Wilson "Hobby" Hobson, 87, of Ashland, Ky., died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, in Hospice Care Center in Ashland following an extended illness.

Mr. Hobson was born Feb. 3, 1918, in Ashland, a son of the late Marvin and Alice Cassady Hobson.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Bennie Hobson; two brothers, Richard F. and Paul E. Hobson; and a sister, Mary Watson.

He was a retired engineer with Semet Solvay, was a member of Ashland Baptist Church and was a veteran of the Army during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Thelma Williams Hobson of Ashland; a daughter, Sharon Baer of Ashland; a son, Gary Hobson of Ashland; grandchildren, Sherri Baer and her husband, Derek Winebrenner of Lexington, Ky., and Donald Ray Baer of Ashland; a great-grandchild, Madison Winebrenner of Lexington; and a special friend, Donald L. Baer of Ashland.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. today, Feb. 16, 2005, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Philip Haney. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from noon until service time today, Feb. 16, 2005, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
