Ballard William Pennington, also known as "Jr." and "Penny," age 65, of Ashland, Ky., died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, in King's Daughters Medical Center.
Mr. Pennington was born July 12, 1939, in Ashland, a son of the late James and Edith Howard Pennington.
He spent more than 30 years in the telecom industry. He was the former president of Mid Eastern COE Instillation Inc. and the founding partner and president of Telephony Technology International, a local training center that provided job training for hundreds of area men and women. He was a member of Westwood Church of God, was a Kentucky colonel and was a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans.
He served aboard the USS Compton and the USS Shenandoah. He was a Korean War-era Navy veteran, which is where he became disabled, and then went on to serve a short time during the Vietnam era.
Surviving are his wife, Mary J. Lovin Pennington of Ashland; two sons, James Will McGinnis of Harrodsburg, Ky., and Steven Ballard Pennington of Ashland; a brother, Thomas D. Pennington of Wurtland, Ky.; two sisters, Helen M. Cartwright and JoRita Bandy, both of Ashland; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Rose Hill Burial Park by Pastors Bob Queen and Chris Keeton with military services by Ironton VFW Post 8300.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight, Feb. 19, 2005, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland.
