Allen R. Galloway, 83, of Ashland, Ky., died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005 in King's Daughters Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mr. Galloway was born April 16, 1921, in Hart County, Ky., a son of the late Walter S. and Bessie Russell Galloway.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Galloway.

He was a certified public accountant and was one of the founding partners of Kelley Galloway Accounting Firm, where he served as an active partner for 27 years.

He was a member and officer of the Kentucky Society of C.P.A.'s, was a life member of the American Institute of CPA's, and was a member of the Kentucky State Board of Accountancy and the National Board of CPA's. During the above mentioned memberships, he served on many committees, one of which was responsible for establishing a Kentucky Audit Commission that set the guidelines for auditing Kentucky School Boards. He was later employed by the state to review audit reports prepared by practitioners for compliance.

He was director of Ohio Valley College, Bowling Green College of Commerce and the Third National Bank of Ashland.

He taught accounting part-time at colleges in the area. After retirement, he taught full-time for approximately 10 years at Ohio University and Marshall University.

He was charter member of the Flatwoods Church of Christ and served as an Elder of that congregation for many years.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Doris Buffat Galloway; three daughters, Beverly Galloway of Glenwood, Fla., Gayle Galloway of Chicago and Joyce (Terry) Thompson of Ashland; a sister, Mary E. Morris of Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Danielle, Terry Matthew Allen and Rebecca Lynn Gayle Thompson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by John Brown. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight, Feb. 22, 2005, at the funeral home.
