Donald Mack Hall, 79, of Ashland, Ky., died on Wednesday, March 9, 2005, following an extended illness.
He was born in Ironton, Ohio, on June 13, 1925, a son of the late Leslie L. and Mary Moore Hall.
He was owner of Don Hall GM Supercenter. He was a graduate of Ashland High School and the University of Kentucky. He received his bachelor of science degree in general business majoring in accounting. After graduating from college, he worked in Cincinnati with the accounting firm of Haskins and Sells. He was later employed by the Champion Paper and Fibre Co. in Hamilton, Ohio. While at Champion, he became a certified public accountant and held the position of controller in the Ohio Division. In 1963, he went into the automobile business with his father-in-law, D.F. Sheets. Upon Mr. Sheets' death, he purchased the dealership in 1972.
He served in the Army Air Force, where he received his pilot wings and commission as captain in World War II.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ashland. He served as president of the Ashland Credit Bureau, director in the Chamber of Commerce and was former director at the Bank of Ashland. He was a member, director and past president of the Kentucky Automobile Association. He was past president of the Tri-River Council of Campfire. He was past president of the Ashland New Car Dealer Association and a member of the National Automobile Dealer Association. He was a member of the Fellows Society of the University of Kentucky, former director of Federated Charities and named Kentucky's Time Magazine Quality Dealer. He also sponsored Junior Achievement activities and Little League baseball teams as well as the Bluegrass Jr. Golf Tournament.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Renfroe Hall of Ashland; and a daughter, Jill Hall Rose and her husband, John "Eck" Rose of Winchester, Ky. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Alexa Rose, also of Winchester; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Hall and Ray Hall; and two sisters, Maxine Jackson and Alice Barnett.
Funeral services will be on Friday, March 11, at 11 a.m. at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland and officiated by Dr. Richard Smith, followed by burial in Woodland Cemetery in Ironton, Ohio, with military rites by VFW Post 8850.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Friends may make contributions to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., or First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Winchester Ave., Ashland, Ky.
