Betty Carol Duncan, 55, of Ashland, Ky., passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, March 20, 2005, at her residence.
She was born July 6, 1949, in Grundy, Va., a daughter of the late John and Ruby Hipps Tackett.
Her son, Jim Ed Duncan, also preceded her in death in 1998.
The Paul G. Blazer High School graduate was a former Certified Nursing Assistant with Elmwood Village, a former volunteer with Meals on Wheels and was of the Nazarene faith.
Her survivors include one daughter, Danetta "D.J." Duncan of Ashland; Matt Vandever of Ashland, whom Betty thought of as a son; two brothers, David Tackett of Lexington, Ky., and Don Tackett of Ashland; a sister, Linda Harris of Nevada; her life-long friend, Lee Ann Artis of Rush, Ky.; and Bentley, Betty's granddaughter and the joy of her life.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, March 23, 2005, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland with Bryan Artis officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
