Sophia Preston Wheeler - 1911-2005

Sophia Preston Wheeler, age 93, of Ashland, Ky., died Friday, April 1, 2005, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility.
Mrs. Wheeler was born May 12, 1911, in River, Ky., (Johnson County), a daughter of the late Elder E.D. and Elizabeth Vanhoose Preston.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Troy B. Wheeler in 1986; three brothers, Herbert, Cyrus and Everett Preston; and two sisters, Maltia Johnson and Mae Preston.
She was a Christian and a member of Old Hood United Baptist Church in Blaine, Ky. She converted and joined the church in February 1922.
She was a member and past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, past worthy high priestess of White Shrine of Jerusalem, past royal matron of the Order of the Amaranth, past mother advisor of Order of Rainbow for Girls, past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Ashland Commandery No. 28, was a Kentucky colonel, and a former volunteer at King's Daughters Medical Center.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Elder Clarence Thompson Jr. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
