Mervil Edward Day, 87, of Ashland, Ky., died Saturday, April 9, 2005, in Boyd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Day was born Feb. 27, 1918, in Morehead, Ky., a son of the late John N. Day and Beulah Mae Lane Day.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Day; and two great-grandchildren, Jennifer Gravell and Aaron Johnson.

For 50 years Mr. Day owned and operated Day's Garage in Ashland. He was a World War II U.S. Navy SeaBees veteran and was of the Baptist faith.

His survivors include his wife of 69 years, Ruth Ream Day, whom he married on Sept. 14, 1936, in Ashland; two daughters, Kathryn (Casey) and her husband, Donald Johnson, of Coal Grove, Ohio, and Dottie Heighton of Ashland; a son, Thomas Day of Ashland; two sisters, Gertrude Prater and Mary Margaret Lanzo, both of Ashland; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

There will be no public visitation.

Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.

Friends may make contributions to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland KY 41101.

Aunt Ruth, I am so sorry about Mervil. I just sent you a card last Thursday morning. My girlfriend (Hilma Downs) called and told me about Mervil. I know this is a tough time for you and Casey, Dotty & Tommy. Tell them they're in my thoughts. Love, Peggie Ream Waddell
