Joseph F. Craycraft, 83, of Ashland, Ky., died Thursday, April 14, 2005, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

Mr. Craycraft was born Oct. 12, 1921, in Hamilton, Ohio, a son of the late Gordon and Clara Dickman Craycraft.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Irene Lewis Craycraft, in 1999; five brothers, Mark, David, Paul, Leroy and Kenneth; and two sisters, Ruth Craycraft and Grace Bergan.

He was a retired Ashland Oil employee and was a World War II Army veteran, where he received the Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Ribbon, a Purple Heart, a World War II Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, Poage Masonic Lodge 325, El Hasa Shrine and the Amateur Radio Club.

Surviving are a daughter, Kim Craycraft Stambaugh and her husband, Ron, of Ashland; local nieces Sharon (John) Bocook and Judy (Tim) Pullem, both of Ashland; local nephews Garry (Cheryl) Lewis and Mervin (Libby) Lewis, both of Ashland; a brother, Louis Craycraft of Bradenton, Fla.; a sister, Faith Hurd of Fort Thomas, Ky.; and two grandchildren, Kameron Stambaugh and Emerson Stambaugh.

The funeral will be at noon Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Mike Rice. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight, April 15, 2005, at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic service at 7 tonight at the funeral home. Military services will be conducted by the Ironton VFW Post 8850.

Friends may make contributions to Fairview Baptist Church, 2040 Main St., Westwood, Ashland, KY 41102.
