Bertha Waugh Stephenson (1936-2005)

Bertha Waugh Stephenson, 69, most recently of Richmond, Ky., formerly of Boyd County, Ky., and West Hills, Calif., where she and her husband lived for more than 40 years, died April 15, 2005, in El Reno, Okla.

She passed away following an automobile accident in which her sister-in-law, Phang Waugh of Alamogordo, N.M., (whom she loved like a sister), also lost her life.

She leaves many friends in California to mourn her passing.

Mrs. Stephenson was born Oct. 5, 1936, in Boyd County, Ky., a daughter of the late John and Lillie Henson Waugh.

She was a retired medical secretary and a 1954 graduate of Boyd County High School.

Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Carl Stephenson of Richmond; a daughter, Pamela Mason of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, John Waugh of Alamogordo and Jack Waugh of Richmond; four sisters, Doris Wellman of Cannonsburg, Ky., Georgene Wormsley of Lorraine, Ohio, Bessie Porter of Greenup, Ky., and Beulah Waugh of Jackson, Ohio; and three grandchildren, John Mason, William Mason and Samantha Mason.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Dr. French Harmon. Burial will be in Coalton Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
