Dorthy Whitley, 84, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Ashland, Ky., died April 13, 2005, in Manorcare Health Services of Venice.
Mrs. Whitley was born Nov. 11, 1920, in Greenup County, Ky., a daughter of the late Harlan and Lily Helton Fritz.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Whitley, in 1973; two brothers, Ovie and Paul Fritz; and a sister, Emma Rister.
She was a homemaker and a member of Unity Baptist Church and Eastern Star and was a volunteer at King's Daughters Medical Center.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Spear, and her husband, Jim, of Venice; a brother, Harlan Fritz Jr., and his wife, Edna, of Wurtland, Ky.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Cecil and Dolores Whitley of South Point, Ohio, and their daughter, Dolores Sloan, of Ironton, Ohio; two sisters, Helen Burkhardt of Wurtland and Opal Hass of Summerville, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Dora Mae Whitley, and her son, Charles, of Flatwoods, Ky.; a granddaughter, Susan Waller, and her husband, Blair, of Venice; a great-grandson, Jared Mathew Waller of Venice; a godchild, Dee Dee Hanners of Catlettsburg, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at noon Saturday at Unity Baptist Church in Ashland by Dr. Floyd Paris. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church.
Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
