The Reverend Ron Martin, 54, of Rush, Ky., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 28, 2005, at his residence.

Rev. Martin was born March 19, 1951, in Detroit, Mich., a son of the late Ernest Lee and Genevive McComas Martin.

He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Salley Johnson, by whom he was raised.

Rev. Martin was a member of the New Buckley Road Freewill Baptist Church and was a former pastor at the Sandy City Freewill Baptist Church. He retired from A.K. Steel as an inspector.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

His survivors include his wife of 32 years, Hazel McKnight Martin of Rush; two daughters, Kim (Allen) Lemaster of Ashland, Ky., and Sara (Todd) White of Lexington, Ky.; his mother-in-law, Alice McKnight of Ashland; four brothers, Donald Martin of Flatwoods, Lennie Chinn of Chesapeake, Ohio, Allen Martin of Proctorville, Ohio, and Charles Leo Davis of Michigan; three sisters, Debbie Stewart of Huntington, W.Va., Sallie Mayo of Proctorville, Ohio, and Teresa Ataire of Washington; and four grandchildren, Ashley, Luke, Blake and Lauryn.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. William Smith. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions to Hopes Lodge, c/o The American Cancer Society, 4338 13th St., Ashland, KY 41102-5432.

I worked with Ron at AK Steel. He was such a fine, kind man. He was so quiet, and low profile, that I didn't know his name,even though I had seen him for years, until I actually worked with him after he became an inspector. He has already been missed and will continue to be so. I am so sorry for his families loss. Rhonda Pettit
