Fred Wilson Gearhart - 1915-2005

Fred Wilson Gearhart, 89, of Ashland, Ky., died Friday, April 29, 2005, in the Kingsbrook Lifecare Center.

Mr. Gearhart was born Nov. 17, 1915, in Floyd County, Ky., a son of the late Fred F. and Carrie Martin Gearhart.

Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Calvin Gearhart, Morton Gearhart and Ted Gearhart.

Mr. Gearhart was an Ashland policeman and retired from the department as Chief of Police after 331/2 years of service.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church; a 50-year member of the Elks B.P.O.E. 350; a member of Fraternal Order of Police; and was a WWII Navy veteran.

His survivors include his wife, Margaret Kramer Gearhart; three daughters, Ruth Whitman (Gene) of Ashland, Martha J. Boggs of Spartanburg, S.C., and Corrine Gearhart of Sebastopol, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Wilson J. Boggs of Spartanburg, Gretchen Smith of Spartanburg, and Shannon Whitman of Lexington, Ky.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2005, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Dale Carden. Burial will follow in the Ashland Cemetery with military rites by VFW Kenova Post 93.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2005, at the funeral home. An Elks service will be conducted at 7 p.m.
