Blanche McGlone was born in Lawrence County, Ky., on April 14, 1917, the only daughter of the late O.J. and Ada Woods Towler.
She received her education in the Boyd County schools, graduating from Boyd County High School in the class of 1935. She then received her bachelor's degree from the then Morehead State Teachers College in 1945. She started her teaching career in a one-room school in Boyd County in 1938.
Her teaching career spanned 36 years and she retired in 1976 from her position as a fourth-grade teacher at Cannonsburg Elementary School. In 1954, she was baptized into the fellowship of Cannonsburg Baptist Church where she maintained her membership until her death.
She served as a Sunday school teacher during many of those years, teaching primarily Junior Girls. Her retirement years were full as she spent her time as a homemaker and church worker, and traveling and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She became "Granny" to all and she was renowned for the world's finest half-runner beans, creamy coleslaw and strawberry shortcake!
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Edsel and Jim Towler.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Wm. Curtis McGlone; two daughters, Ruth Ann Meade of Ashland and Mary Alice Keeton (Charles) of Louisville; five grandchildren, Charles R. Keeton II (Kelly) of Edison, N.J., Heather Morman Lucas (Larry) of Ashland, Amber Morman Burke (Kevin) of Louisville, Benjamin Curtis Keeton (Burcum) of Atlanta, Ga., and Mary Afton Keeton of Louisville; and four great-grandchildren, Dillon Carter, Justin William and Amelia Ann Lucas and Evan Charles Keeton.
