Dorothy J. Overall (1930-2005)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Posted: 06/28/05 - 02:25:19 am EDT

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dorothy J. Overall, 75, of Ashland, Ky., left her earthly home Saturday, June 25, 2005, to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and her loving husband of 55 years, in King's Daughters Medical Center.

Mrs. Overall was born May 26, 1930, in Mississippi, a daughter of the late Richard Floyd and Jewell Joyce Chaffin White.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard "Bernie" Overall Jr. in April 2004 and by her loving grandmother, Annie Chaffin.

A former employee of Blue Ribbon Lanes, she was a Kentucky colonel, and a member of American Legion No. 76 Auxiliary, and VFW Ladies Auxiliary 10017. More than anything, she treasured the friendships made during her lifetime and spending time with her family. She and Bernie enjoyed a life filled with boating, fishing, camping, gardening, dancing, bowling and traveling.

Surviving are her daughter, Debra Jean Overall Gilliam of Ashland; three sons, Stephen Kent Overall of Dale City, Va., Dana Charles Overall of Richmond, Ky., and Gary Scott Overall of Lexington, Ky.; and eight grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at Rose Hill Burial Park by Pastor Robert Queen. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

There is no public visitation.

Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 721 West Main St., Suite 102, Louisville, KY 40202.

Dear Debbie, Gary, Dana, Steve and all your spouses and children, We are so sorry for your loss and everyone's loss of such a wonderful, caring person as your Mom. We loved her and Bernard dearly and will always have such sweet memories of both. They are together now in Paradise and that is such a peaceful thought. We know where they are, but we will still grieve for them, because that is just human nature. Each one of you were loved so much and your Mom and Dad were so proud of your accomplishments in life. Dana, Jim and I still laugh thinking what Dot said about your college gratuation. You told her that you didn't think you would go through the ceremony and she said as long as it took you to graduate that you certainly would go through it and they would be there to see that you did. We loved that story and that was Dot. Jim and I are sorry that we can not be at Graveside Services Wednesday. We were in N. C. last week for a wedding and I had to have Oral Surgery on Monday and go back tomorrow for a checkup. We will remember your Mother with a donation to the Diabetes Association. We love each and everyone of you and take care. Jim and Bobbie Donithan..
