Nina Frances Stephens Pugh Davis (1917-2005)

Nina Frances Stephens Pugh Davis, 88, of Ashland, Ky., died Monday, July 4, 2005, in Oakmont Manor Nursing Facility.

She was the third of 12 children born to the late Robert and Wyona Watson Stephens on June 10, 1917, in Ashland.

Mrs. Davis was also preceded in death by her first husband, Julian L. Pugh Sr., who passed away in 1977; brothers, Jack Stephens, Walter R. Stephens, Don Stephens, Paul Stephens and John Stephens; and sisters, Mildred Stephens Newman, Mary Stephens Paul, and Connie Stephens May.

A devoted homemaker who enjoyed needlework, sewing and cooking, she was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Society of Christian Service and the Win One Class. She was also a member of the Summit Homemakers Club for more than 50 years. In her spare time, she loved to read, play bridge and was an avid bowler and sports fan.

Surviving are her second husband, Marcus Davis of Ashland; a son, Julian L. Pugh Jr. of St. Charles, Ill.; three daughters, Donna Pugh Grabarczyk of Roanoke, Va., Peggy Pugh Simpson of Villa Hills, Ky., and Susan Pugh Brunner of Charlotte, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Paula Davis Raghuraman and Jeanie Davis; a brother, Robert Stephens of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Barbara Stephens Caniff of Flatwoods, Ky., and Jane Stephens Brown of Bellefonte, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two devoted companions, Loretta Wilson and Joyce Dixon; and a wonderful friend, Jack Leaver.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Wayne Watts. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions to Centenary United Methodist Church in her memory, 2901 Winchester Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
