Andrew J. "A.J." Patton, 80, of Ashland, Ky., died Friday, July 29, 2005, at his residence.

Mr. Patton was born on July 24, 1925 in Ashland, Kentucky. A son of the late Callie Patton and Minnie Farson Patton Cumpton.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Virgil, William Harold and Charles E. "Jack" Patton.

He was a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for 36 years. He served during World War II with the U.S. Marines, was a member of Poage Lodge 325, F&AM, of Ashland and the Scottish Rite, was a Kentucky colonel and attended Unity Baptist Church in Ashland.

Surviving are his wife, Maxie Dean Steil Patton of Ashland; a daughter, Linda Patton Stennett (Alan) of Catlettsburg, Ky.; a son, Randy Lee Patton (Anne) of Hillsborough, N.J.; a sister, Ethel M. Kelley (Charles) of Greenup, Ky.; a granddaughter, Amanda Stennett of Waltham, Mass.; and two grandsons, Zachary Kubernat of Naples, Fla., and Andrew Carlson of Hillsborough.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Harold Cathey. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic service at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
