Russell Edward Smith (1912-2005)

Russell Edward Smith, 92, of Meade Station, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

Mr. Smith was born Nov. 20, 1912, in Boyd County, a son of the late Thomas Smith and Dorotha Mae Scott Smith.

He was the oldest member of the Meade Station Church of God, served on the Board of Trustees and formerly taught Sunday school. He retired after 41 years from Armco Steel, Blast Furnace Department.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Hansford Boyd Smith, on March 31, 1999; three brothers; two sisters; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

His survivors include six sons: Donald E. Smith (Donna), Larry G. Smith, Johnny J. Smith (Ann), Stephen R. Smith, Garry M. Smith (Vickie), and Timothy W. Smith; one daughter, Jenny Martin; two sisters, Rosemary Ellis and Barbara Sparks; one brother, Bob Smith; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Robert Jordan. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
