Phoebe Anne Hale Webb (1928-2005)

Phoebe Anne Hale Webb of Orange Park, Fla., passed away Sept. 10, 2005, in Orange Park Medical Center afer an extended illness.

Phoebe was an only child born to William Henderson and Imogene Gladys (See) Hale on June 8, 1928, in Louisa, Ky.

She was a graduate of Ashland High School in Ashland, Ky., and Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. Her degree was in medical technology. She pursued this profession while employed by King's Daughters Medical Center and in the office of H.B. McWhorter, M.D., a specialist in internal medicine.

Phoebe lived in Kentucky for 60 years before moving to Orange Park, Fla., in 1988. She was most recently a member of Orange Park United Methodist Church, following her lifelong membership with First United Methodist Church in Ashland.

She was a member of the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center in Ashland and was active in genealogical work for many years, writing and publishing a book on eastern Kentucky history.She was a former member of the Kentucky Genealogical Society and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists/Medical Technologists and was a former member of Orange Park Community Theatre and Friends of the Orange Park Library.

Phoebe was an avid reader and a devoted fan of Virginia Tech football, Jaguars NFL football and Kentucky Wildcats basketball. She loved everything related to Kentucky horses, lighthouses and her Irish ancestry.

Phoebe was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Lynn Woodward (Gib) of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; two grandsons, Jeffrey L. Cox of Jacksonville, Fla., and Gregory L. Cox of Orange Park; and her loving cousins, Susie, Tootie, Elsie, Betty, Jean, Steve and Chibbie and their families.

A graveside service will be at Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, with the Rev. Gene Pillow officiating.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to First United Methodist Church, 1811 Carter Ave., Ashland KY 41101, or the Salvation Army, 2212 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.

Funeral services are under the direction of Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland.

My deepest sympathy for the loss of this lovely lady.We worked together at flower shop,became fast friends even more so when we discovered we had connections through the old See cemetary.She was joy to work with and brought a ray of sunshine in our lives. So sad to her of her passing
