Edward Stevens, 78, of Ashland, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mr. Stevens was born Feb. 8, 1927, in Ashville, Ohio, a son of the late Maride and Ollie Barker Stevens.
A World War II Army veteran, Mr. Stevens retired from General Telephone. He loved to play golf and work crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Prince Stevens of Ashland; three sons, Paul Edward Stevens and his wife, Laura, of Ashland, Larry B. Stevens of Culpepper, Va., and Greg Stevens and his wife, Carol, of Ashland; two daughters, Donna Rae Thompson and her husband, Chuck, of Ashland, and Tammy Stapleton and her husband, Tony, of Bothell, Wash.; two brothers, Chester Stevens and his wife, Naoma, of Belleville, Ohio, James Everett Stevens and his wife, Joann, of Brown City, Mich.; a sister, Lucille Fowler of Westland, Mich.; grandchildren, Tony and Larry Edward Pierce, Derrick and Alyssa Stevens, Brian, Michael and Daniel Stevens and Sam, Kayla and Zach Stapleton; and four great-grandchildren, Asher Stevens, Dylan Pierce, Erik Pierce and Jacob Pierce.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Stevens was preceded in death by a brother, Curt Stevens.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel, with the Rev. Don Young officiating. Burial will be at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Pallbearers will be Paul Stevens, Greg Stevens, Derrick Stevens, Tony Pierce, Larry Pierce and Don Fowler. Military graveside services will be provided by the American Legion Post 93 of Kenova.
Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
