Shirley Ann Kennard, 67, passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, in King's Daughters Medical Center following an extended illness.
Shirley was born in New Boston, Ohio, on Oct. 4, 1937, a daughter of the late James E. and Betty E. McCoy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kennard Jr.; a sister, Nancy McCoy; and a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Walton Kennard.
Shirley is survived by two sons, John David Kennard of Ashland, Ky., and Brett Richard Kennard and his wife, Cindy, of Ashland; three granddaughters, Megan C. Jones of Flatwoods, Ky., Emily L. Jones of Ashland and Elizabeth A. Kennard of Ashland; a sister, Janet Hicks and her husband, Merle, of South Point, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Lilly.
She received an associate's degree from Ashland Community College, a bachelor's degree from Marshall University and a master's degree from Morehead State University. She attended Glenwood High School in Scioto County, OHio.
She retired from the Kentucky Department for Vocational Rehabilitation and had also worked for the Kentucky Employment office as well as Social Services in Greenup.
Shirley was a huge fan of bluegrass music, enjoyed the beauty and culture of the Appalachian hills and followed UK basketball immensely and loved her Cats.
Visitation will be at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The services will be conducted by Pastor Matt Riley of Flatwoods First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, Ohio.
