Joy Wheeler Thompson (1918-2005)

Joy Wheeler Thompson, of Ashland, Ky., died Oct. 17, 2005, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility.

Mrs. Thompson was born March 18, 1918, in Lawrence County, Ky., a daughter of the late Minton and Cora Coffey Wheeler.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Darrel Thompson; a brother, Herman Wheeler; and five sisters, Ethel Barnett, Bessie Kohling, Minnie Rosing, Myrtle Rice and Mary Skaggs.

She was retired from Sears and was a member of First Church of God and Kentucky Creative Arts.

Surviving are a daughter, Sandy Greene and husband, Gary of Ashland; a sister, Jean Ward of Ashland; grandchildren, Andrew Greene and wife, Pat and David Greene and wife, Susan of Ashland; and great-grandchildren, Maddy Greene, Spencer Greene, Zach Greene and Hannah Greene.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum by the Rev. Tom Pelt. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.

Friends may call from noon until service time at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.

Steen Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.

Friends may make contributions to First Church of God, 3500 S. 29th St., Ashland, KY 41102 or Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.

I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Thompson's passing. I grew up on Sharon Road and remember how sweet she was to all of us neighborhood kids. I speak for myself as well as my family when I say that she'll be missed.
