Ballard O. “Pops” Stewart Sr., 78, of Ashland, Ky., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, in the Hospice Care Facility.

Mr. Stewart was born May 25, 1928, in Ashland, a son of the late Theodore and Virgie Stevens Stewart.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Stewart.

He was a former truck driver with Halzit (Ashland Oil) and was veteran Army Paratrooper with the 11th and 82nd Airborne. He attended the First Baptist Church of Cannonsburg.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mary Fannin Stewart of Ashland; four sons, Gary Wayne Stewart of Deland, Fla., Jeffrey Michael Stewart and Ballard O. Stewart Jr., both of Ashland, and Mark Christopher Stewart of Webbville, Ky.; two daughters, Connie Sue Morton and Kathryn Lynn Gambill, both of Ashland; a sister, Helen Jo Stewart of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Stan Williams. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
