William Douglas Kinney (1922-2005)

William Douglas Kinney, 83, of Ashland died on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2005, in the VA Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.

He was born July 18, 1922, in Catlettsburg, Ky., a son of the late Ben Kinney and Louella Smith Cunningham.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James F. Kinney and Warren Kinney; and a sister, Elizabeth Cunningham.

Mr. Kinney, a Navy Veteran disabled in WWII, was a Licensed Lay Minister with Johnson Memorial CME Church in Ashland. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

His survivors include his wife, Christine Henley Kinney of Ashland; a daughter, Paulina “Polly” Hamilton of Ashland; a brother, Edward Kinney of Detroit, Mich.; a sister, Mary Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio; a special granddaughter, whom he raised, Shavonna Kinney of Ashland; a great-grandson, and his namesake, Jalen Douglas Hamilton of Ashland; a special nephew and his wife, Jerry and Marsha Foley of South Point, Ohio; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. James Buford and the Rev. Henry L. Mosley. Burial will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
